Lake Monsters Storm Back Late, Take 6-4 Win

Burlington, VT- The Aberdeen IronBirds jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the Vermont Lake Monsters scored six unanswered runs and took a 6-4 win, setting up a rubber match tomorrow in the series finale.

Mike Yastrzemski led off the game with a double and Jeff Kemp followed with a single, putting runners on first and third. Trey Mancini then hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Yastrzemski and it put the IronBirds in front, 1-0. Three batters later, Manny Hernandez would claim an RBI single, as it scored Kemp and it was 2-0 Aberdeen after the top of the first.

The IronBirds scored single runs in the second and third. In the second, Yastrzemski hit a two out single, and would score when Mancini reached on an error charged to the third baseman Luis Baez. Hector Veloz made it 4-0 Aberdeen when he led off the third inning with a solo homerun to left field.

It would be the last time Aberdeen scored on the evening.

Vermont scored six unanswered runs, helped by a Tyler Marincove solo home run in the fourth. The Lake Monsters took the lead for good in the seventh, when they scored three runs on four hits.

Alex Santana took the loss, falling to 0-1. Derek Hansen earned the win, while Sam Bragg got the save.

Sebastian Vader will get the start for the IronBirds tomorrow as Aberdeen looks to win the series before heading off to Jamestown, New York to play the Jammers. First pitch from Centennial Field is set for 7:05 p.m.
