Aberdeen, MD - The Aberdeen IronBirds announced plans to host their annual 'IronFest' event on May 17th at Ripken Stadium. This free event will celebrate the upcoming season of IronBirds baseball, as the team looks to defend its McNamara Division title. There will also be several other events to mark the occasion.

"IronFest marks the beginning of summer at Ripken Stadium," said Joe Harrington, General Manager of the IronBirds. "When we get to invite our fans back to the stadium to celebrate all that is good about baseball, Aberdeen, and Harford County as a whole. It is always a very special day."

Individual game tickets for the 2014 IronBirds season will go on sale at 9 a.m. at the Ripken Stadium Box Office. Opening Day is June 20th against the Brooklyn Cyclones, with first pitch scheduled for 7:35 p.m.

The IronBirds, along with the Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation, will host a celebration walk in honor of Amanda Hichkad. Fans can register online and they will be able to walk around the field at Ripken Stadium. Proceeds from the walk will benefit the Chesapeake Cancer Alliance and Cancer LifeNet.

The 'Out of the Park' Yard Sale will also take place outside the stadium, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Fans can enjoy free admission to Harford County's largest yard sale, all on the newly paved parking lot at Ripken Stadium. If fans or vendors would like their own booth to sell, please call 410-297-9292 and ask to speak with Liz.

The IronBirds' Family Fun Fest kicks off at 9:00 a.m. inside the stadium. Face painters, caricature artists, pony rides from Patti's Ponies, live music, and much more will be available for fans of all ages.

Fans are encouraged to bring canned goods with them to the ballpark for IronFest, as the IronBirds will be hosting a Food Drive to benefit Harford Community Action Agency throughout the event.

"We hope to see our fans at Ripken Stadium for IronFest," Harrington said. "It's the perfect opportunity to have fun with family and friends, celebrate the beginning of summer, and support our community all at the same time."

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call (410) 297-9292.
