IronPigs Blanked in Series Finale 6-0

August 10, 2014

TOLEDO, OH - The IronPigs tallied only six hits while being shutout for the ninth time this season, but still leave Toledo with a series victory (3-1) and a split of the season series (4-4).

Mud Hens shortstop Hernan Perez would put the home team ahead early on Sunday with a one-out, solo-homerun in the first inning off of LHP Greg Smith. DH Manny Pina would extend the lead to 2-0 with a sacrifice fly that scored C James McCann, who had doubled following the Pina homerun.

Smith would spin six innings and allow four runs, including a 3B Mike Hessman sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and a Brandon Douglas RBI-single in the sixth.

LHP Matt Hoffman made his third appearance as an IronPigs, hurling the final two innings and allowing two runs on four hits and one walk. OF Ben Guez tripled to lead-off the eighth inning, later scoring on a OF Daniel Fields single before Fields scored on a Perez sacrifice fly.

SS Freddy Galvis and DH Russ Canlzer combined for four of the team's six hits, with OF Cam Perkins and C Cameron Rupp each contributing a single. A one-out double by the Lehigh Valley shortstop in the sixth inning was the only extra-base hit of the game for the IronPigs.

The IronPigs will now continue their eight-game road trip with a four-game series against the Columbus Clippers, starting at 7:05 p.m. Monday night. RHP Jeff Manship is scheduled to make his fifth appearance for Lehigh Valley, and his second start since joining the team. The Clippers will send RHP Zach McAllister to the mound, who is 6-0 with a 1.87 ERA in the International League this season, including a victory at Coca-Cola Park on June, 21 in which he allowed two runs over seven innings pitched.
