Isotopes Rout Sky Sox 13-7 To Take Series Lead

August 23, 2014

NEED TO KNOW: The Albuquerque Isotopes (59-74) pounded out 20 hits in a 13-7 rout of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (52-82) Friday night at Security Service Field to take a one-game lead in the series. The Topes will go for a series win in the finale Saturday night.

THE BIG INNINGS: After the Sky Sox took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, the Isotopes tied it in the top of the third. Colorado Springs retook a one-run lead in the bottom of the third, but that was the last lead they would see as Albuquerque responded with six runs in the top of the fourth, highlighted by doubles from Jeff Bennett, Tim Federowicz and Clint Robinson. Alex Guerrero capped the six-run frame with a two-run homer. The Sky Sox would plate three in the sixth before the Isotopes put it out of reach with four runs in the seventh by way of a Joc Pederson three-run homer.

30-30 VISION: Joc Pederson stole his 29th base of the season in the third inning, inching that much closer to becoming the first member of the "30-30 Club" in the modern era in the Pacific Coast League. He also mashed his 32nd homer of the season in the seventh inning and finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs scored, four RBI, a home run and two walks.

BEST OF BENNETT: Isotopes starting pitcher Jeff Bennett turned in nearly six strong innings for the second-straight outing. He finished with 5.2 innings pitched, having allowed nine hits and four earned runs. He gave up six total runs, while striking out five and walking only two. In his previous start, he tossed 6.0 innings, allowing just one run on nine hits. Bennett now boasts an 8-6 record and a team-best 3.95 ERA.

RAKING ROMAK: After his gland slam on Thursday night, Jamie Romak went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI Friday night. Since the Dodgers outrighted him to the Minors in late June, Romak has 52 RBI in 51 games, along with 11 homers, one triple and 17 doubles.

OTHER BIG NUMBERS: Trayvon Robinson went 3-for-4 with a walk and four runs scored. Tim Federowicz pounded out three hits in his 3-for-5 effort along with two runs scored, two RBI and a walk. Clint Robinson was also 3-for-5 with a run scored and three RBI.

ON DECK: The Isotopes and Sky Sox will play the finale of their four-game series Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. Right-hander Barry Enright (0-3, 7.81 ERA) is scheduled to take the hill for Albuquerque, while Colorado Springs will go with lefty Yohan Flande (2-10, 5.00 ERA).

IN THE HOLE: After their final road trip of the season, Albuquerque will return home to conclude the 2014 season with a four-game, five-day series against the Las Vegas 51s.
