Magill Recalled to LAD, Federowicz Returns to Topes

April 27, 2013

C Tim Federowicz will rejoin the Isotopes today, April 27, after being optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque by the Dodgers on April 24. The Dodgers also recalled right-handed pitcher Matt Magill from Triple-A Albuquerque today. Magill will start and wear No. 36 in his Major League debut tonight vs. Milwaukee.

Magill has posted a 2.84 ERA with 23 strikeouts over 19.0 innings in four starts for the Isotopes this season. The Simi Valley native has held the opposition to a .206 average on the year and last pitched on Monday, making 71 pitches and fanning seven while allowing one run on one hit in 4.0 innings. The 23-year-old was selected by the Dodgers in the 31st round of the 2008 First-Year Draft. He was signed out of Royal High School.

Federowicz made his first 25-man roster at the start of this season with Los Angeles before being optioned the first time on April 9. The 25-year-old backstop was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 7th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft before being traded to the Dodgers in a four-player trade on July 31, 2011. Federowicz was 0-for-5 with a walk in three games with the Dodgers this season. In four games with the Topes this year, he hit .533 (8-for-15) with two home runs (one grand slam), six RBI and four runs scored. He gunned down three potential base stealers in those four road games.

The former University of North Carolina catcher made his Major League debut with the Dodgers on September 11, 2011. He has a career .282 average in the minors and played a career-high 108 games behind the plate for Albuquerque in 2012, tossing out 39 percent of potential base stealers (33 of 84). Hitting .294 with 11 home runs last year with the Topes, Federowicz tied Scott Van Slyke for the team-lead with 34 doubles. He ranked second on the club with 76 RBI, behind Pacific Coast League leader Jerry Sands (107).

The Topes take on Round Rock tonight for the third game of a four-game set before returning home Monday to open an eight-game homestand. RHP Sean White (0-2, 4.50) toes the rubber against former Isotope RHP Ross Wolf (0-1, 1.80) with a 6:05 PM MT start at Dell Diamond. Listen to all of the action as Josh Suchon has the call on 610AM.
