Topes Fly By Redbirds in 10th

The Isotopes (15-11) found more late-inning magic, plating two in the tenth inning on a Tim Federowicz two-run home run to defeat the Redbirds (13-12) 6-4 from Isotopes Park. The Isotope catcher (3-for-4, 4 RBI, HR) is 18-34 since joining the club with 15 RBI and four homers.

Los Angeles Dodgers' southpaw Chris Capuano made a rehab start with the Isotopes after being placed of the 15-day disabled list on April 17 with a strained calf. Capuano did not factor into the decision and tossed 5.1 innings of two-run baseball against Memphis. He allowed seven hits, one walk and punched out five Redbirds. The 34-year-old hurler threw 76 pitches and 53 for strikes.

Federowicz picked up right where he left off last night drilling an RBI double into left field scoring the game's first run. LF Chili Buss reached (1-for-4) base on a fielding error by first baseman Jamie Romak setting the stage for Federowicz.

The Isotopes and Redbirds traded runs in the third. Memphis briefly evened the score at one in their half of the frame. CF Justin Christian doubled with one out putting a runner in scoring position with one out for Memphis. After advancing to third on a 2B Kolten Wong single, Christian was brought home on a 1B Jamie Romak groundout. Topes 2B Elian Herrera returned the favor for Albuquerque blasting a home run to left field and giving the Isotopes the lead again, 2-1.

Albuquerque expanded their lead to 3-1 in the fourth inning. RF Rusty Ryal (1-for-3) and 3B Brian Barden (1-for-4) led the inning off with back-to-back singles. The next batter CF Tony Gwynn Jr. grounded into double play but Ryal came in to score.

Memphis touched up right-handed reliever Anthony Ortega for two runs to take to lead in the sixth 4-3. After Capuano exited the game catcher Rob Johnson singled home Chad Huffman off of Ortega closing the book on Capuano. St. Louis top prospect Oscar Taveras came in to pinch hit for the Redbirds and singled to center scoring Johnson and Adron Chambers.

The red-hot Federowicz found the right field gap in the sixth to tie the game at four with an RBI double, his second of the game. 1B Scott Van Slyke walked to lead off the inning.

In two innings of relief, Ortega gave up the lead to Memphis but settled down throwing two scoreless innings after the sixth. Ortega allowed two runs on two hits and walked one. He also struck out two. RHP Peter Moylan (2-0, 4.39) came into the game in the ninth and fired a two scoreless innings earning the win.

Redbirds' LHP Nick Additon gave Memphis five innings in the starting role. He allowed three runs, two earned, on five hits, including a home run, and struck out four. RHP Jorge Rondon (1-3, 3.86) suffered the loss allowing a tenth inning run.

The Isotopes and Redbirds complete their four-game series with Albuquerque looking at a sweep tomorrow, Thursday May 2. RHP Sean White (0-2, 4.02) is set to take the ball for Albuquerque against Memphis' righty Maikel Cleto (0-1, 14.46).
