July 23, 2013

Infielder Scott Van Slyke rejoins the Albuquerque Isotopes today, July 23, after being optioned by the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 21. In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Geison Aguasviva was sent to Double-A Chattanooga.

Van Slyke is making his second stint of the 2013 season with Albuquerque and also played in three games with the Isotopes from June 22-24 on a Major League rehabilitation assignment for Los Angeles. He is hitting .375 (48-for-128) with 34 runs, 12 doubles, nine home runs and 30 RBI in 37 games for the Isotopes.

He led the Pacific Coast League in five offensive categories including homers and average before his call-up. He also ranked first with 85 total bases, a .503 on-base percentage and .733 slugging percentage at the time the Dodgers selected his contract on May 10.

The 26-year-old Missouri native played in 33 games for the Dodgers batting at a .241 clip (21-for-87) with six doubles, six home runs and 14 RBI. He played 32 games at first base for Albuquerque and just four in the outfield but played 27 games in the outfield for Los Angeles and two games at first.

Aguasviva spent all of 2013 with the Isotopes after opening the season with the club and reaching Triple-A for the first time in his career. The Dominican native appeared in 33 games this season going 4-4 with a 5.12 ERA (26 ER/45.2 IP). He struck out 22 hitters and allowed just three inherited runners to score out of 21. The 25-year-old signed as a non-drafted free agent on December 15, 2005.

Albuquerque continues their four-game road trip against the Nashville Sounds tonight at 6:05 PM MDT. The Sounds will send righty R.J. Seidel (2-4, 5.52) to the hill against the Topes southpaw Jonathan Sanchez (2-1, 6.93). All the action can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
