JACKSON, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, dropped game one of their six game series against the Montgomery Biscuits by a 6-1 count on Tuesday at The Ballpark at Jackson.

The defeat puts Jackson (63-56) a game below .500 in August (5-6), while a streaking Montgomery (67-53) pushes out to an 8-3 mark this month.
Emilio Vargas (0-2, 7.16 ERA) took the loss for Jackson, giving up a five-run third inning from which the team could not recover. With two outs, a two-run double by Nathan Lukes and an RBI triple by Nick Solak immediately preceded a two-run homer from Mike Brosseau, giving Montgomery a 5-0 lead in the space of seven pitches. Vargas allowed a solo home run to Jake Cronenworth in the sixth as well, finishing with a pair of strikeouts and no walks. Tyler Mark and Miguel Aguilar combined for three scoreless innings in relief.
Offensively, the Generals struggled with southpaw Brock Burke (4-1, 1.72 ERA), who struck out eight batters while walking two and allowing five hits. The Generals did not record an extra base hit, and their only tally came against right-hander Spencer Jones with two outs in the ninth, as Jay Gonzalez scored from second base on an infield throwing error. Gonzalez and Marty Herum finished with two hits apiece, but the West Tennessee squad scored three runs or fewer for the tenth time in 14 games.
