Jackson, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, strung together their third consecutive win against Mobile on Saturday, beating the BayBears 7-1 at The Ballpark at Jackson.

The Generals (63-47) have outscored the visiting BayBears (41-69) by a 17-2 aggregate count over the course of three games in this series.
Emilio Vargas (3-3, 4.39 ERA) pitched better than he has all season, firing seven shutout innings while allowing just three hits. The 22-year-old Vargas used 88 pitches while inducing eight groundball outs, carrying a no-hit bid into the fourth inning. He stranded a pair or runners in the fifth and sixth innings before retiring the final five men he faced. Justin Donatella allowed an unearned run in the eighth inning after an infield error, but he concluded the final two frames without damage beyond that.
Everything clicked for the Generals' offense in the second, when the lineup batted around against overwhelmed left-hander Max Herrmann (0-2, 6.23 ERA). After a three-batter first inning, Herrmann gave up four singles and a pair of walks in the second inning, permitting six runs to score while ten men came to the plate. An infield error hampered Herrmann's completion of the frame, but he soldiered on and did not allow any runs in the third, fourth or fifth innings. Jackson got an insurance run in the seventh, as an RBI single from Ramon Hernandez scored Renae Martinez with two outs against Mobile reliever Daniel Procopio. Hernandez put up Jackson's only multi-hit game, and Pavin Smith collected a pair of RBI, getting one hit to extend his current hitting streak to a season-high ten games.
