Jacksonville drops second straight in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (38-49, 9-8) fell to the Mobile BayBears (35-50, 8-9) by a 4-3 score in the third game of the six-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium on Saturday night.


MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (38-49, 9-8) fell to the Mobile BayBears (35-50, 8-9) by a 4-3 score in the third game of the six-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium on Saturday night.

Mobile right-handed relief pitcher Ryan Clark (2-0) earned the victory despite allowing a run in the top of the eighth. Jacksonville right-handed relief Pitcher Vincenzo Aiello (0-1) took the loss, allowing the go-ahead run to Mobile in the bottom of the eighth. Mobile right-handed relief pitcher Dario Beltre earned his six save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning. With two outs in the inning, J.C. Millan put Jacksonville in front 2-0 with a two-RBI single up the middle. Mobile responded in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out RBI single by Brandon Sandoval to make it a 2-1 game. The BayBears took the lead an inning later in the bottom of the fifth on a two-out two-RBI single by Jack Kruger to put Mobile in front 3-2.

Both clubs scored in the eighth inning. Jacksonville tied the game at 3-3 when a passed ball by catcher Julian Leon scored Corey Bird from third base to even the score. The BayBears responded in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single by Zane Gurwitz to get back in front 4-3, which would be the final score.

Mobile right-handed starting pitcher Tyler Carpenter had a no decision with his five innings of work, allowing two runs (both earned) on five hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Jorge Guzman also had a no decision, working five innings where he allowed three runs (all earned) on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

The Jumbo Shrimp and BayBears will continue the series with the fourth game of the six-game set at Hank Aaron Stadium on Sunday afternoon at 7:05 p.m. eastern. The game's start time was pushed back to 7:05 p.m. eastern due to extreme heat expected on Sunday afternoon in Mobile. Right-handed pitcher Kolton Mahoney (1-0, 3.18 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Mobile right-handed pitcher Luis Madero (4-5, 4.55 ERA).
