JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp overcame a 3-0, seventh-inning deficit and a 4-3, 11th-inning deficit, before Mobile BayBears left fielder Zach Gibbons hit a go-ahead two-run triple and threw out the tying run in the 12th inning of a 6-5 Mobile win before 6,316 saw Saturday Night Fireworks


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp overcame a 3-0, seventh-inning deficit and a 4-3, 11th-inning deficit, before Mobile BayBears left fielder Zach Gibbons hit a go-ahead two-run triple and threw out the tying run in the 12th inning of a 6-5 Mobile win before 6,316 saw Saturday Night Fireworks at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Mobile (22-20) took the lead against Jacksonville right-hander Robert Dugger in the second inning. Catcher Michael Barash walked, and second baseman Connor Justus singled. Shortstop Riley Unroe hit a two-out ground ball to first baseman Eric Jagielo, whose throw Dugger missed near first base, scoring two runs. Mobile added a fifth-inning run, as first baseman Matt Thaiss doubled, stole third base and scored when designated hitter Jose Rojas hit into a fielder's choice for a 3-0 lead. In his Southern League debut, Dugger allowed three runs - one earned - on four hits and five walks with two strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings before giving way to right-hander Jorgan Cavanerio, who went 3 2/3 scoreless innings, with the help of left fielder Cade Gotta, who threw out Mobile third baseman Taylor Ward at home plate for the final out of the seventh inning.

BayBears right-hander Alex Klonowski held Jacksonville to one hit through the first six innings. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Jacksonville center fielder Monte Harrison singled to right field and scored on Gotta's RBI double to left-center field. Against left-hander Conor Lillis-White, Jagielo hit an RBI single to right field. Right fielder John Norwood singled, and with two outs catcher Rodrigo Vigil hit a game-tying single to left-center field.

The 3-3 tie remained through a scoreless 10th inning. In the 11th inning, Jacksonville right-hander Jose Pena (0-1) hit a batter and walked two others to score a run, but Gotta hit a game-tying double off BayBears right-hander Jeremy Rhoades (4-0). In the 12th inning, Gibbons hit a two-run triple off Pena for a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the inning, third baseman Brian Schales hit an RBI single to left field, but Gibbons threw him out at second base. Right-hander Samil De Los Santos allowed two more hits before recording the final two outs with the tying and winning runs on base for his first save.
UP NEXT: The Jumbo Shrimp continue their series with Mobile at 3:05 p.m. Sunday, when Jacksonville right-hander Cody Poteet (2-3) is scheduled to face BayBears left-hander Jose Suarez (1-1) Gates open at 2 p.m., when families can play catch on the field, followed by player autographs as part of Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday. Kids activities will be in the Wolfson Children's Hospital Kids Zone. Elmo will be meeting fans, and following the game, kids 12 and under can run the bases. For Navy Mutual Life Insurance Military Appreciation Day, veterans, active, retired and former military and their dependents receive free general admission or reserved tickets by showing an active military or veteran ID at the box office. The Jumbo Shrimp will wear camo jerseys. The game is presented by Easy 102.9.
