Jumbo Shrimp blanked by Tides 5-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp were shutout by the Norfolk Tides 5-0 Friday night in front of 5,060 fans at 121 Financial Ballpark.
Norfolk (60-70, 24-21) opened the scoring on Jumbo Shrimp (61-67, 26-27) starter Jeff Lindgren (L, 0-1) in the first inning. Jud Fabian singled to lead off the inning. Forrest Wall drew a walk which moved Fabian to second. The next batter Coby Mayo reached on an error to load the bases. The very next pitch, Fabian was picked off at third base by catcher Will Banfield. A groundout by Daniel Johnson moved Wall to third base and put Johnson aboard. With two outs, Nick Maton (16) crushed a three-run home run to give the Tides a 3-0 lead.
The Tides continued their scoring in the third inning. Wall cracked a leadoff single. A batter later, Johnson doubled moving Wall to third. Maton followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Wall and increased the lead to 4-0.
In the fourth inning the Tides added to their lead. With two outs, consecutive singles by Maverick Handley and Fabian netted Norfolk runners on the corners. Wall followed with an RBI infield single that scored Handley which increased the lead to five runs.
Jumbo Shrimp reliever Austin Roberts entered the game in the fifth inning. The right hander tossed three innings of no hit ball while fanning three Tides.
Norfolk reliever Nolan Hoffman (W, 6-3) tallied three strikeouts in two innings of work.
The series between the Jumbo Shrimp and the Tides resumes Saturday at 6:35 p.m. Norfolk will hand the ball to LHP Trevor Rogers (0-1, 20.77) who faces the Marlins organization for the first time since being traded to the Orioles.
