CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Jacksonville starter Shawn Morimando tossed six scoreless innings and Tristan Pompey’s ninth-inning triple Wednesday keyed the Jumbo Shrimp to a 2-1 victory over the Charlotte Knights from Truist Field.

The score was tied at one in the ninth when Santiago Chavez doubled off Knights (26-46) reliever Matt Foster (0-1). Pompey then delivered an RBI triple to put the Jumbo Shrimp (40-32) in front at 2-1.

Andrew Bellatti worked a perfect bottom of the ninth inning for his first save to seal a six-game winning streak for Jacksonville, matching a season-high.

The Jumbo Shrimp got on the board first in the fourth inning. Lorenzo Quintana doubled to lead off. After a pair of ground outs, Justin Twine laced an RBI single for the game’s first run.

Jacksonville was able to keep the game scoreless with impressive defense in the sixth inning. Jake Burger singled with two outs before Mikie Mahtook laced a ball off the wall in center. The Jumbo Shrimp issued a perfect 8-4-2 relay to nab Burger at the plate and keep the score at 1-0.

Charlotte, however, was finally able to knot the score in the seventh on Nate Nolan’s RBI single. That was the only blemish on Jacksonville pitching, as Morimando scattered seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts in 6.0 innings. Colton Hock yielded one run in his 2.0 frames before giving way to Bellatti for the save.

Jacksonville plays a Thursday doubleheader at Charlotte with two seven-inning contests getting underway at 6:05 p.m. LHP Braxton Garrett (4-3, 4.41 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp in game one against Knights LHP Tanner Banks (3-2, 3.93 ERA).
