Shrimp Blast Wahoos 9-1

Dugger works seven scoreless innings for Jacksonville

PENSACOLA, Fla.  - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (21-30, 49-70) defeated the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (32-20, 62-58) by a 9-1 score in the third game of the five-game series at Blue Wahoos Stadium on Thursday night.

Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Robert Dugger (5-5) earned the win with his seven scoreless innings as he tied a career-high with nine strikeouts, walked three batters, and only allowed five hits. Pensacola right-handed starting pitcher Tony Santillan (4-1) took the loss, working three innings where he allowed eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

Jacksonville built an early lead in the top of the first, with RBI doubles by Justin Twine and Joe Dunand giving the Shrimp a 2-0 advantage. John Silviano added to the lead in the top of the third with a three-run homer to right field, extending the score to 5-0. The Jumbo Shrimp tacked on three more runs in the next inning, with Monte Harrison supplying an RBI single before Brian Schales had a sacrifice fly and Dunand added another RBI double to grow the lead to 8-0. Dunand with that hit had recorded seven hits in a row, with five for extra bases.

Rodrigo Vigil added Jacksonville's final run with a solo homer to left in the top of the seventh to put the lead at 9-0. Pensacola got its first run of the night in the bottom of the eighth as Jose Siri homered off Jacksonville reliever Jose Pena to put the score at 9-1, which would be the final.

The Jumbo Shrimp and Wahoos will continue their series with the third contest of the five-game set on Friday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium at 7:35 p.m. eastern. Right-handed pitcher Dustin Beggs (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Pensacola right-handed pitcher Daniel Wright (6-8, 4.11 ERA). Jacksonville will return home to open a five-game series with the Birmingham Barons at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 19. Gates open at 5 p.m. for Southpaw's Birthday, with local mascots on hand and a Pregame Candy Drop in the outfield presented by Jax Refrigeration. Families can play catch on the field, followed by player autographs on Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday. Kids activities will be in the Wolfson Children's Hospital Kids Zone, and after the game, kids 12 and under can run the bases. The game is presented by Easy 102.9.
