Shrimp End Trip With Doubleheader Split

Jacksonville wins Game Two 7-4

MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (12-23) and the Mobile BayBears (15-19) ended their five-game series by splitting a doubleheader, with the BayBears winning Game One 1-0, and the Jumbo Shrimp winning Game Two by a 7-4 score to close out the series at Hank Aaron Stadium on Friday


MOBILE, Ala. - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (12-23) and the Mobile BayBears (15-19) ended their five-game series by splitting a doubleheader, with the BayBears winning Game One 1-0, and the Jumbo Shrimp winning Game Two by a 7-4 score to close out the series at Hank Aaron Stadium on Friday night.

The twin bill ends Jacksonville's 10-game road trip, with the Shrimp going 2-8 over the past two series at Mississippi and Mobile.

Game One - BayBears defeat Jumbo Shrimp 1-0

Mobile won the first seven-inning contest by a 1-0 score. Mobile right-handed starting pitcher Luis Madero (1-2) earned the victory with his six scoreless innings of work, allowing three hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Jorge Guzman (1-4) took the loss, allowing one run on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Mobile right-handed relief pitcher Joe Gatto earned his first save of the year by working a scoreless seventh inning.
The BayBears plated the game's only run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Brendon Sanger to lead 1-0, which would be the final score. Guzman's final five innings on the mound were scoreless, and Joe Dunand was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of singles.
The loss was Jacksonville's fifth shutout defeat during this 10-game road trip, and marked the 10th time Jacksonville has been blanked this season.

Game Two - Jumbo Shrimp defeat BayBears 7-4
The Jumbo Shrimp earned a doubleheader split by winning the second seven-inning contest 7-4.
Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Jordan Yamamoto (2-3) earned the victory, working six innings where he allowed four runs (three earned) on two walks with four strikeouts. Mobile right-handed starting pitcher Jeremy Beasley (1-3) took the loss, working three and a third innings where he gave up seven runs (all earned) on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Jacksonville left-handed relief pitcher Dylan Lee picked up his second save of the season by working a scoreless bottom of the seventh.

Jacksonville struck quickly in the top of the first inning, with Stone Garrett delivering a two-run single to give the Jumbo Shrimp a 2-0 lead. The BayBears answered in the bottom of the first, with a Jack Kruger single along with a throwing error by Jacksonville right fielder Anfernee Seymour scoring Jahmai Jones from first to cut Jacksonville's lead to 2-1. The BayBears tied the game at two when Bo Way reached on a fielder's choice with Kruger scoring on the play to make it a 2-2 game.

Garrett continued his strong night at the plate in the top of the third with an RBI single that put Jacksonville back in front 3-2. In the top of the fourth, Magneuris Sierra blasted a two-run homer to right field to grow Jacksonville's lead to 5-2. The home run was the first for Sierra in 2019. Justin Twine followed with an RBI double, then Garrett added an RBI single to grow the lead to 7-2. Garrett finished the game 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, and he drove in six runs during the series.

The BayBears plated a run in the bottom of the fourth, then added a Kaleb Cowart solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to cut Jacksonville's lead to 7-4, which would be the final.

The win marks the first time that Jacksonville has won at least two games in a road series this season.

The Jumbo Shrimp will bus home to Jacksonville through the night and on Saturday will begin a 10-game homestand with the first of five games against the Biloxi Shuckers at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville at 6:35 p.m. Right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet (2-3, 4.00 ERA) will start for Jacksonville against Biloxi right-handed pitcher Johan Belisario (1-0, 2.95 ERA).
