August 18, 2018

PENSACOLA, Fla.  - The Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (22-31, 50-71) fell to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (33-21, 63-59) by a 5-2 score in the fifth and final game of the five-game series at Blue Wahoos Stadium on Saturday night.

Jacksonville right-handed starting pitcher Cody Poteet (2-11) took the loss, going seven innings where he allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

The Wahoos started the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, including an RBI single by Shed Long that put the lead at 2-0 Pensacola. The Blue Wahoos added their next three runs an inning later in the bottom of the fifth. Jose Siri started the scoring in that inning with an RBI single, and then TJ Friedl would later score on a passed ball by Jacksonville catcher Sharif Othman to put the Pensacola lead at 4-0. Wahoos third baseman Mitch Nay scored the final run by bringing home Siri on a sacrifice fly to left to make it a 5-0 game.

The game remained 5-0 Wahoos until the top of the ninth inning. With two outs, Jacksonville second baseman Justin Twine extended the game with a single to right field, also extending his personal hitting streak to 14 games, top hitting streak for a Jumbo Shrimp batter in 2018. After Joe Dunand was hit by a Carlos Navas pitch, Brian Schales delivered a two-run double to get Jacksonville on the board, making the score 5-2. The next batter, pinch-hitter Luis Pintor, flew out to deep left field to end the game and snap Jacksonville's three-game winning streak.

Miami Marlins center fielder Lewis Brinson was 0-for-2 with a walk in the fourth game of his major league rehab assignment, and he played seven innings defensively in center field.
