JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - It was another record-breaking season for the Johnson City Cardinals in 2017, as the franchise broke their all-time single-season attendance record by leaps and bounds by welcoming 65,202 fans to TVA Credit Union Ballpark. That mark is nearly 12,000 more than the previous high set a season prior, in 2016, when they welcomed 53,444 fans through the gates.
"It's been amazing to see the progress of the Johnson City Cardinals, and we can't thank this community enough for their support," said Cardinals GM Tyler Parsons. "Whenever you set an attendance record, credit first has to be given to your fans and partners in the community. They have continued to fill TVA Credit Union Ballpark and make this one of the best atmospheres in all of MiLB. This is a record not only for the Johnson City Cardinals, but for the entire Johnson City community, and we can't thank everyone enough for coming out this season!"
This is the latest in a long line of accomplishments since Boyd Sports, LLC took over operation of the franchise prior to the 2016 campaign. On Wednesday, August 23, the Cardinals welcomed their 53,445th fan to TVA Credit Union Ballpark for that day's contest against the Greeneville Astros, surpassing the 2016 record. Last year's single-season attendance mark broke the previous mark that stood for 14 years when 48,038 fans came to the yard in 1994.
In addition, the Cardinals have also broken their single-game attendance high multiple times over the past two seasons. Most recently, the high-water mark was set on July 3 against the Pulaski Yankees when 3,549 fans flocked to the ballpark to enjoy a Dollar Monday and Independence Day fireworks.
Lastly, the average of 1,976 fans per contest is the highest average for Johnson City since Minor League Baseball began keeping track in the 2005 season.
