Hernandez, Bullpen Lead Claws to 2-1 Tuesday Win Over Wilmington

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - The BlueClaws bullpen threw six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and Cristian Hernandez earned his first professional save as the BlueClaws topped Wilmington 2-1 on Tuesday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - The BlueClaws bullpen threw six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and Cristian Hernandez earned his first professional save as the BlueClaws topped Wilmington 2-1 on Tuesday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

Jersey Shore (17-26/42-67) has now won three in a row and took the first of the six game series from Wilmington (20-23/55-53).

The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI groundout from Rixon Wingrove after Wilmington starter Rodney Theophile walked the bases loaded. Wilmington came back to tie the game in the second on an RBI single from Viandel Pena.

Jersey Shore re-took the lead in the third inning on a groundout by Jared Carr, an inning in which they also had the bases loaded an nobody out.

BlueClaws starter Carlo Reyes, making his first appearance since returning from Reading, gave up one run in three innings. Carlos Francisco (1-3) followed with two scoreless innings. Erubiel Armenta and Brett Schulze followed with scoreless innings of their own.

Hernandez then came on in the eighth and retired the side in order. In the ninth, Wilmington had two on with one out, but Hernandez struck out Ricardo Mendez and got Drew Mendoza to ground out to second base to end the game.

The BlueClaws have allowed one run in their last three games, all wins.

The teams continue their series on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm with LHP Rafael Marcano on the hill.
