McGarry Fans 11; Martin Homers in 4-1 Wednesday Win

WILMINGTON, DE - Griff McGarry struck out 11 over six scoreless innings and Casey Martin homered in a 4-1 win over Wilmington on Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium.

WILMINGTON, DE - Griff McGarry struck out 11 over six scoreless innings and Casey Martin homered in a 4-1 win over Wilmington on Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium.

The BlueClaws (26-45) snapped a five game losing streak with the win and leveled their series in Wilmington (37-33) at one game apiece.

Jersey Shore jumped out to a 1-0 lead on an RBI triple from Freylin MInyety in the top of the third inning. Casey Martin then singled him in to put the BlueClaws up 2-0. Maritn, who homered on Tuesday, hit his fifth home run of the season in the fifth to put the BlueClaws up 3-0. Martin is now 12 for his last 36 with three home runs in his last 10 games.

Meanwhile, McGarry was dealing. The right-hander from the University of Virginia struck out 11 over six scoreless innings. In his last four starts, McGarry has struck out 43 hitters over 23.2 innings while allowing just five runs.

The BlueClaws tacked on a run in the ninth on an RBI single by Johan Rojas.

After McGarry (3-3) came out, Andrew Baker gave up one unearned run in the seventh. Jonathan Hughes threw a scoreless eighth and Aidan Anderson threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Anderson earned his sixth save, all of which have come in June.

Ethan Wilson, Martin, and Johan Rojas had stolen bases in the win. For Rojas, it was the 33rd of his season and 100th in his career.

Blue Rocks starter Tim Cate gave up three runs in five innings and took the loss.

The teams continue their series on Thursday night at 6:35 pm. RHP Dominic Pipkin starts for Jersey Shore.
