Ortiz Homers But Claws Fall 10-4 on Wednesday

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Luis Curbelo and Lenyn Sosa had three hits apiece and Winston-Salem scored six times in the seventh inning en route to a 10-4 win over the BlueClaws on Wednesday night at Truist Stadium.

Jersey Shore (29-39) has dropped the first two games in their series with the Dash (28-40).

The BlueClaws led early. DJ Stewart singled home a run in the first and Jhailyn Ortiz homered in the third to put Jersey Shore up 2-0. Ortiz's home run was his team-leading 13th of the season and 61st of his career. He has now homered twice in the last three games.

Curbelo homered in the fourth for the Dash, also his 13th home run of the year. The Dash added three more runs in the fifth to take the lead for the first time. They went ahead for good on an RBI single from rehabbing White Sox outfielder Luis Robert.

Already leading 4-2, the Dash scored six times in the seventh to blow open the game. The inning included a two-run single from Curbelo and was capped by a three run double from Lenyn Sosa.

Sal Gozzo added an RBI single for the BlueClaws in the eighth while Nate Fassnacht walked with the bases loaded in the ninth.

Starter Jhordany Mezquita (1-5) was charged with three runs in four innings and took the loss for the BlueClaws. Ryan Williamson (1-1) gave up just two hits over four scoreless innings to earn the win in relief for Winston-Salem behind starter Kaleb Roper, who allowed two runs in three innings.

Ortiz, Gozzo, and Matt Kroon had two hits apiece for the BlueClaws while Logan O'Hoppe had a hit and drew two walks.

The teams continue their series on Thursday night at 7:00 pm while the BlueClaws return home on Tuesday to welcome in the Brooklyn Cyclones.
