Blue Rocks Nearly No-Hit BlueClaws in 3-0 Saturday Win

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Cade Cavalli threw seven hitless innings with 15 strikeouts and Wilmington pitchers struck out 20 BlueClaws in a 3-0 win at FirstEnergy Park on Saturday night.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - Cade Cavalli threw seven hitless innings with 15 strikeouts and Wilmington pitchers struck out 20 BlueClaws in a 3-0 win at FirstEnergy Park on Saturday night.

Cavalli's 15 strikeouts are the most-ever by a BlueClaws opposing pitcher. The first-round pick from the 2020 draft fanned 15 of the 24 BlueClaws batters he faced and improved to 3-1 on the season.

The Blue Rocks took a no-hitter into the ninth inning but Logan O'Hoppe singled off Matt Cronin with one out. Cronin struck out the last two hitters to complete a 20 strikeout game for the Blue Rocks. Cavalli went seven innings with Sean Nolin fanning two in the eighth and Cronin three in the ninth.

Wilmington opened the scoring in the second inning when a run scored on a third baseman Nate Fassnacht on a line drive from Kyle Marinconz. BlueClaws starter Kevin Gowdy escaped further damage in that inning, but Wilmington added two more in the fifth. an RBI double by Jacob Rhinesmith made it 2-0 and he would score on an error on BlueClaws first baseman DJ Stewart.

Gowdy (0-3) was charged with three runs over 4.2 innings, but only one was earned.

The BlueClaws have been shutout seven times this season and have now been blanked on back to back days with their scoring drought reaching 22 innings.

Wilmington has taken 8 of 10 from the BlueClaws this season.
