Ortiz's Four Hits Not Enough, Claws Fall 6-5 on Walk-Off Home Run

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY - Josh Breaux hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth to spoil a four hit night from Jhailyn Ortiz and give Hudson Valley a 6-5 win over the BlueClaws on Tuesday at Dutchess Stadium.

The Renegades (21-15) won their fifth straight while the BlueClaws fell to 15-20 on the season. Breaux's home run, his fourth of the year, came off Aneurys Zabala, who fell to 2-3 on the season.

The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the first inning on an RBI single from Logan O'Hoppe for a 1-0 lead. The BlueClaws added three more runs in the second on RBI singles from Cole Stobbe and Jhailyn Ortiz and a groundout from Nate Fassnacht.

Jersey Shore starter Adam Leverett threw five scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out five. He left with a 4-0 lead.

Hudson Valley came back with four runs off Jhordany Mezquita in the sixth inning, highlighted by a Chad Bell three-run home run that tied the game. They added a run in the eighth on a base hit by Isaiah Pasteur to take a 5-4 lead.

Then in the ninth, the BlueClaws tied the game on an RBI single from Ortiz, his fourth hit of the day. He later stole second but was stranded there.

Ortiz's four hits included two doubles and he drove in two runs. It was his second career four-hit game and first since June 2, 2018, also with the BlueClaws.

The loss was the fifth walk-off and second walk-off home run allowed by Jersey Shore this season. Elvis Peguero (3-1) was the winning pitcher in relief for Hudson Valley.
