Team Record 13 Run Third For 'Claws In 14-2 Win on Tuesday

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - The BlueClaws scored a franchise record 13 runs in the third inning en route to a 14-2 win in the series opener at Greensboro on Tuesday night.

JERSEY SHORE, NJ - The BlueClaws scored a franchise record 13 runs in the third inning en route to a 14-2 win in the series opener at Greensboro on Tuesday night.

Jersey Shore (38-65) won their third game in their last four and won the first meeting of the season with the Grasshoppers (44-57).

A fielder's choice groundout by Ethan Wilson started the scoring. Casey Martin added a two run double. Andrick Nava reached on a fielder's choice that included an error, allowing two more runs to score for a 5-0 lead. Marcus Lee Sang followed with a bases loaded walk for a 6-0 lead.

Luis Garcia then reached on a throwing error, allowing two more runs to score. Wilson then singled home the ninth run of the inning before Kendall Simmons hit a three run home run. Nava followed with an RBI single. For Simmons, who joined the BlueClaws on Friday from Clearwater, it was his first BlueClaws hit and home run.

The BlueClaws had previously scored 10 runs in an inning three times, including on April 24th this year against Ashville at ShoreTown Ballpark.

Nava finished the night with three hits and two RBIs. Simmons went 2-4 and drove in three runs. Ethan Wilson and Casey Martin each had one hit and two RBIs.

Meanwhile, starter Matt Russell (5-7) gave up two runs over five innings with three walks and four strikeouts to earn the win. Andrew Baker followed with two scoreless innings and Carlos Francisco and Rodolfo Sanchez each threw one.

Ricky DeVito (3-4) was charged with six of the 13 runs in the third inning and took the loss.

The teams play at 12:30 pm on Wednesday afternoon. LHP Rafael Marcano starts for the BlueClaws.
