'Hawks drop finale in Modesto, streak ends at eight

Hit streaks continue for trio of Lancaster hitters

MODESTO, Calif. - Roberto Ramos and Wes Rogers hit back-to-back home runs, and a trio of Lancaster JetHawks hitters extended hitting streaks in a 12-7 loss to the Modesto Nuts on Thursday afternoon at John Thurman Field. 
The JetHawks (22-19) jumped on Nuts starter Nick Neidert (4-0) for four runs in the top of the first. Brendan Rodgers started the rally with a one-out double and scored on a Yonathan Daza base-hit. Two batters later, Ramos blasted his second home run of the season over the wall to the left of straightaway center. Rogers immediately followed with a solo homer.
Lancaster starter Trey Killian (5-1) wasn't able to hold on to the early lead. Modesto (23-18) came right back to tie the game with four runs on three doubles and two hit batters in the bottom of the first. They added three more runs in the second inning on five hits, including three doubles. Chris Mariscal made the score 10-4 in the third inning with a three-run homer. 
Killian's afternoon ended after three frames. The right-hander allowed a career-high 10 runs on a career-high 11 hits. 
Logan Cozart entered the game and tossed three scoreless and hitless innings of relief. 
The JetHawks attempted to chip away at Modesto's six-run lead with runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. 
Mylz Jones delivered a RBI-single in the sixth inning, Garrett Hampson tripled and scored on a grounder in the seventh and Chris Rabago delivered a RBI-double in the eighth. 
The Nuts added two insurance runs in the eighth inning on a Marsical double to move ahead by five, 12-7. 
Daza finished the game 2-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to 10. Rogers finished 2-for-3 to move his hitting streak to nine games and Hampson extended his streak to eight with a 2-for-5 afternoon. 
The JetHawks season-best win streak was snapped at eight games. 
The road trip continues with a four-game series at Inland Empire. The series opener is slated for Friday night at San Manuel Stadium. Colin Welmon (3-0) is scheduled to start against Jaime Barria (2-3). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
