JetHawks take finale in extras

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Lancaster won its first extra-inning game of 2018 on Sunday, beating Inland Empire, 9-8, in 11 innings. Forrest Wall came through in the top of the 11th with an RBI single, and Alan Trejo sealed the victory with a diving catch to end the game.

Lancaster (9-9) got its first taste of extra innings in 2018, with both teams getting a runner at second base to start each frame. The JetHawks cashed in, scoring both in the 10th and 11th innings. In the top of the 11th, Forrest Wall drove in Brian Serven with a two-out single to give Lancaster a one-run lead.
Wall went 3-for-6 in the game, stretching his hitting streak to eight games. His game-winner came against position player Jared Walsh (0-1), who was on the mound for the 66ers in extras.
Kenny Oakley wiggled out of a jam to close out the game in the bottom of the frame. With two on and two outs, Alan Trejo made a diving stop on a Jahmai Jones line drive to end the game in dramatic fashion.
Reid Humphreys (1-0) allowed a run to score in the bottom of the 10th inning, but earned the win in relief. The JetHawks got a strong start from Logan Longwith, who worked into the seventh inning.
The game was back-and-forth from the start. Lancaster took an early lead on Colton Welker's fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the first inning. Inland Empire (9-9) answered with the next four runs.
The JetHawks went back in front, 6-4, but Inland Empire answered right back. Jahmai Jones put the 66ers up with a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh. Lancaster tied the game in the eighth, 7-7, on an RBI double by Manny Melendez.
After a day off on Monday, the JetHawks kick off a three-game series in Visalia Tuesday. Brandon Gold (2-1) is set to start against Riley Smith (0-0) in the opener. First pitch from Recreation Park is set for 6:00.
