Lancaster walks-off with Aplin's double

Outfielder drives in three, including winner, team earns split

LANCASTER, Calif. - Andrew Aplin's double to right field scored Nolan Fontana form first base to give the JetHawks a 6-5 win over the Bakersfield Blaze on Sunday afternoon at The Hangar.

Aplin totaled three RBIs on the day and went 2-for-5. Delino DeShields led off the ninth inning with a bunt single. Fontana replaced him at first after a fielder's choice groundout to set up Aplin's game-winner.

Kyle McMyne (0-1) allowed the run to suffer his loss of the season.

Travis Ballew (1-0) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. After striking out the first two batters of the inning, Bakersfield loaded the bases against the JetHawks closer. He proceeded to strike out Chris Berset keep the game tied into the bottom of the ninth.

Lancaster scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at five. DeShields doubled to start the inning and ended up scoring on an Aplin hit.

Dominic D'Anna had hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh against Blair Walters. With D'Anna at the plate, catcher Ryan McCurdy dropped a foul popup for an error to extend the at-bat. The three runs were unearned.

Chris Epps had given the JetHawks the lead in the bottom of the sixth. He broke a 2-2 tie with a two-run home run, his first of the season, against reliever El'Hajj Muhammed.

Jonathan Moscot tossed his best game of 2013. The Blaze starter allowed three runs in 5 2/3.

JetHawks starter Mike Foltynewicz allowed two runs - one earned - in four innings of work. He walked four and allowed a solo home run to Berset.

After a day off Monday, the JetHawks (11-6) head south to Lake Elsinore to take on the Storm in the first of a three game series on Tuesday night. Brady Rodgers and Chris Devenski will pitch for Lancaster. First pitch is 6:05 pm.
