Velasquez named Cal League Pitcher of Week

Right-hander puts up 0.69 ERA over three outings in week of April 3-13

LANCASTER, Calif. - JetHawks starter Vince Velasquez was named the Cal League Player of the Week on Monday for the week of April 3-13.

Velasquez finished with a 1-0 record and 0.69 ERA over three appearances including two starts. The right-hander allowed just one earned run and struck out 16 batters in 13 innings while giving up just three hits and issuing three walks.

The solid week for Velasquez included four no-hit innings to pick up the victory against the San Jose Giants on April 7. The Pomona, Calif. native is currently riding a 10 inning scoreless streak.

The last JetHawks pitcher to be named Cal League Pitcher of the Week was right-hander Brady Rodgers who earned the honor for the week of May 27-June 2 in 2013.

Velasquez is scheduled to make his next outing on Tuesday on the road against the High Desert Mavericks.
