White's big night leads 'Hawks over Mavs

First baseman blasts two homers, drives in six as Lancaster rolls

ADELANTO, Calif. - Tyler White led the way with his bat as the JetHawks scored nine unanswered runs to comeback and beat the High Desert Mavericks, 12-5, on Tuesday night at Heritage Field. 

White went 4-for-5 with his first multi-homer game and drove in six runs to lead the offensive attack. 

He gave the JetHawks (77-57) a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a sacrifice fly against starter Lars Huijer. 

High Desert (63-71) answered runs single runs in each the first and second innings. They scored the two runs without recording a hit. Starter Zach Morton walked five batters and allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings. He allowed just one hit. 

White picked up the second run with an RBI-double in the third inning. Jobduan Morales followed with an RBI-single to take a 3-2 lead. 

Reliever Daniel Minor allowed two Mavericks hitters to reach base in the fifth inning and was replaced by Chris Cotton (1-0). Cotton, making his JetHawks debut, gave up a three-run home run to Marcus Littlewood to give High Desert the lead. Cotton would follow with a scoreless inning and eventually pick up the win. 

The game turned in the top of the sixth with White at the plate, a runner on base and two outs. White hit a foul popup along the first base line. Zach Shank camped under but dropped the popup for an error. White followed by hitting a two-run homer against reliever Oliver Garcia (2-1) to tie the game. 

Chan Moon increased the lead with an RBI-single in the seventh inning and Jack Mayfield doubled in two runs in the eighth inning to put the JetHawks up 8-5.

The club broke the game open in the ninth inning. Rio Ruiz started the rally with a two-run double and White cemented the win with a two-run homer to give Lancaster a 12-5 lead. 

The series continues on Tuesday as the JetHawks send Vince Velasquez to the mound against Dylan Unsworth. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. at Heritage Field.
