Cardinals Split Doubleheader With Princeton

PRINCETON, WV - After splitting their series with Bristol 2-2, the Cardinals hit the road at Princeton for a five game series in three days. Back-to-back doubleheaders and one game on Saturday. The Cardinals would win game one, 3-2 but would fall short in game two and lose 8-3.Game one

PRINCETON, WV - After splitting their series with Bristol 2-2, the Cardinals hit the road at Princeton for a five game series in three days. Back-to-back doubleheaders and one game on Saturday. The Cardinals would win game one, 3-2 but would fall short in game two and lose 8-3.
Game one started in a pitchers' duel as both the Cardinals and Rays were shut out until the fourth inning. The Cardinals drew first blood by scoring first in the top of the fourth with two runs. MoisesCastillo led off with a single, and LeandroCedeno followed with a walk. MichaelPerri hit a sac bunt but reached first as MoisesCastillo beat the throw to third and that loaded the bases. DarielGomez hit a sac fly to score Castillo from third to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. Then, with two outs Leandro Cedeno scored on a passed ball to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead. 
ColeAker started the game for the Cardinals. Aker went six innings, surrendered two hits, one earned run, three walks, and notched one strikeout en route to his second win as a Johnson City Cardinal. 
The Cardinals scored one more in the top of the fifth to make it 3-0. With one out, LuisFlores singled , but was caught stealing during MoisesCastillo's at-bat. With bases empty, MoisesCastillo launched a solo homerun (2) to left field.
The Pirates scored a run in the sixth and seventh innings, but the Cardinals outlasted the Rays in game one and won 3-2.
The Cardinals used one reliever after ColeAker. ParkerKelly was brought on to pitch the bottom of the seventh and close out the game. Kelly pitched one inning, allowing two hits, one earned run, and one walk en route to his third save of the season.
Game two started 30 minutes after and the Cardinals were set to sweep the doubleheader. The Rays started the scoring in the bottom third, and fourth innings with three runs. Heading to the top of the fifth, Johnson City answered with one. AndrewWarner drew a leadoff walk. He was substituted after injuring his leg advancing on a wild pitch. With two outs, LiamSabino collected his first hit with Johnson City and his first RBI. Sabino singled and scored DarielGomez, who came in to pinch run for the injured Warner. The Rays answered with two more in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 5-1. 
DavidOca got the start in game two for Johnson City, his first of the season. Oca went three innings, surrendered three hits, one earned run, one walk, and tallied five strikeouts. Unfortunately he would take his fifth loss of the season.
The Cardinals did not go away as MoisesCastillo hit his second homerun of the night, a two-run homerun in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 5-3. Unfortunately the Rays answered with three in the bottom of the sixth and won 8-3.
The Cardinals used one reliever after DavidOca. JuniorGonzalez threw three innings, surrendering 10 hits, four earned runs, and notched one strikeout.
The Cardinals have another doubleheader tomorrow against Princeton starting at 5 p.m.
