Lookouts run away from Suns, 9-3

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Chattanooga Lookouts broke a 3-3 tie with a five-run seventh inning on the way to a 9-3 win over the Jacksonville Suns in front of 3,154 at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville Wednesday night.

The Lookouts (31-27 second half, 67-61 overall) broke a scoreless tie in the third inning against Suns left-hander Matt Tomshaw. Second baseman Levi Michael hit a leadoff home run to left field. Center fielder Zack Granite reached on an error by second baseman James Roberts, stole second base, went to third base on a groundout and scored on third baseman Niko Goodrum's sacrifice fly.

Jacksonville (29-29, 59-69) tied the game in the bottom of the inning against Lookouts right-hander Kohl Stewart (8-6). Center fielder Kenny Wilson walked, and right fielder Ronnie Mitchell singled to right field, before two groundouts and an RBI single by first baseman Chris Curley tied the game, 2-2. The Suns broke the tie in the fifth inning, as third baseman Brian Anderson drew a two-out walk, Curley singled, and shortstop Peter Mooney hit an RBI single to make it 3-2. Stewart completed six innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and five walks with two strikeouts.

Lookouts catcher Stuart Turner tied the game on a sixth-inning, two-out home run against Tomshaw, who allowed three runs - two earned - on seven hits and no walks with six strikeouts in six innings. In the pivotal seventh inning, Michael reached against Suns right-hander Ryan Chaffee (2-2) on Anderson's throwing error. Granite had a bunt single, shortstop Engelb Vielma bunted into a forceout, and after Chaffee's wild pitch, an intentional walk to third baseman Niko Goodrum loaded the bases. Left fielder Travis Harrison hit a ground ball in front of home plate that allowed Granite to score the go-ahead run. Right fielder Edgar Corcino then lined a three-run triple to right field and scored to make it 8-3 on Roberts' throw over third base. It became 9-3 when Turner completed a game-best four-hit night with a ninth-inning RBI double.
