JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Chris Mazza held the Birmingham Barons to one run in 7 1/3 innings, and a three-run first inning began a 4-1 win that kept the team in first place by a half game in the Southern League South Division second-half race in front of 1,641 Monday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Jax Jumbo Shrimp Highlights - August 21, 2017
The Jumbo Shrimp (29-26 second half, 59-66 overall) tallied three first-inning runs on six hits against Barons left-hander Tanner Banks (3-6). Center fielder Braxton Lee hit a leadoff double to left field for his Southern League-leading 138th hit. Left fielder Austin Dean then hit an RBI double on a fly ball down the right-field line that bounced into the seats along the right-field line. Two batters later, third baseman David Vidal hit an RBI single to center field, scoring Dean. Catcher Cam Maron singled to put runners at first and third bases, before second baseman KC Serna singled to left field, driving in Vidal.
Mazza kept the Barons (24-31, 50-74) scoreless until the fourth inning, when center fielder Tito Polo was hit by a pitch, designated hitter Mason Robbins hit an infield single, and catcher Zack Collins hit an RBI single to make it 3-1. Mazza got an inning-ending double play and lasted until an eighth-inning, one-out walk. He allowed five hits with two strikeouts.

The Jumbo Shrimp chased Banks from the game in the sixth inning. Serna - then the shortstop - hit a leadoff double to left field, and designated hitter Taylor Ard walked. Left-hander Colton Turner entered and hit first baseman Dustin Geiger with a pitch, before second baseman Alex Yarbrough hit a sacrifice fly to right field. A line-drive double play ended the inning, and Turner did not allow a hit in three innings. Jacksonville right-hander Esmerling De La Rosa completed the eighth inning with two strikeouts, and right-hander Tyler Kinley struck out the side in the ninth inning for his seventh save.
