Rain suspends Suns and BayBears Friday

Game will be completed at 5:05 p.m. Saturday, followed by a seven-inning game; Friday tickets may be exchanged for Saturday, Sunday or Monday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Rain suspended Friday's game with the Jacksonville Suns leading the Mobile BayBears, 5-1, in the bottom of the third inning at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The game is scheduled to be completed beginning at 5:05 p.m. Saturday, with gates opening at 4 p.m. A seven-inning game will follow the completion of Friday's suspended contest. Regular individual tickets for Friday's game may be exchanged at the box office for a ticket of equal or lesser value to the games Saturday, Sunday or Monday.

Fans holding tickets for Saturday, Sept. 3, are welcome to attend both games of Saturday's doubleheader. Group picnics will remain at their scheduled times.

Suns left-hander Matt Tracy began Friday with a scoreless top of the first inning, and his teammates tallied five runs against BayBears left-hander Josh Taylor in the bottom of the inning. Center fielder Kenny Wilson swatted a leadoff home run to the palm trees atop the left-field berm. Left fielder Austin Dean tripled to the right-field corner, and scored on right fielder Alex Glenn's RBI double to left-center field. A wild pitch moved Glenn to third base, and a groundout by third baseman Brian Anderson scored Glenn for a 3-0 lead. Taylor walked first baseman Chris Curley with one out, second baseman Peter Mooney hit a two-out double to right field, and catcher Cam Maron lined a two-run single to left-center field for a 5-0 lead. Taylor was removed after allowing five earned runs on five hits and one walk with one strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning.

The BayBears answered in the top of the second inning. Third baseman Dawel Lugo doubled to left-center field and scored on catcher Oscar Hernandez's RBI single to make it 5-1. Tracy kept Mobile from scoring further through three innings.

In the bottom of the third inning, BayBears left-hander Austin Wright retired Curley on a flyout to center field. Before second baseman Garrett Weber began his at-bat, home plate umpire and crew chief Alex Ziegler called for the rain tarp to cover the infield, beginning a rain delay.

The game will be resumed from that point Saturday and played to completion, before a seven-inning game to follow. The teams will complete the season with single games Sunday and Monday.

Friday marked the second suspended game this season for Jacksonville (30-35 second half, 60-75 overall) and the third for Mobile (32-32, 64-70).

UP NEXT: The Suns will resume Friday's series with Mobile at 5:05 p.m. Saturday and play it to completion, with a seven-inning game to follow. When gates open at 4 p.m. Saturday, the first 1,000 fans receive the season's final giveaway (but it is a mystery until then) on Community First Credit Union Night. The doubleheader is also Military Appreciation Night presented by Budweiser, as active military and veterans and their immediate families receive free general admission or reserved tickets by showing a military or veteran ID at the box office.
