The Jupiter Hammerheads started off a 7-game homestand with a crushing 15-3 loss by the bats of the Charlotte Stone Crabs Monday night.
Taylor Braley took the mound with a 1.89 ERA, but Monday's 11-hit, 7-run outing bumped his ERA up to 2.97 for the season. A 3-run homer in the fifth topped gave the Stone Crabs a significant 7-0 lead. Braley left the mound after six innings with six earned runs, one walk and six strikeouts.
In the bottom of the sixth the Hammerheads showed some offensive spark. Lazaro Alonso batted in Víctor Víctor Mesa with a single, then a double from James Nelson scored Riley Mahan. Alonso scored on an RBI groundout to make the game 3-7.
Despite that offensive push, a brutal 7th inning sealed the deal for the Hammerheads. The Stone Crabs were dominant against Colton Hock, leaving him with seven earned runs in his 1/3 inning on the mound.
Vincenzo Aiello only allowed one hit for the remaining 2 2/3 innings, a homer from the first batter that scored two inherited runners. After that initial at-bat, Aiello shut down the Stone Crab bats for the rest of the night. The last two innings were both three-up, three-down for the right-handed reliever.
The Hammerheads continue their series against Charlotte tomorrow night at 6:30pm at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. For tickets, go to https://www.milb.com/jupiter/tickets/.
