Hammerheads strike first, but drop another to the Threshers

Jupiter, FL. - The Jupiter Hammerheads took an early lead but were not able to fight of the Threshers in the second game of the series, losing 11-3 on Tuesday at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. The loss drops that Hammerheads to 68-62 on the season. This leaves the team sitting in fourth place in the Southern Division of the Florida State League.
Hammerheads starter Jorge Guzman (0-9, 4.03 ERA) threw for five and two thirds innings giving up six hits, three runs, four walks and struck out four batters. During his outing he faced twenty seven batters and did not allow any runs until the second inning. Guzman would settle in well for the third and fourth innings, not allowing any additional runs to score until the fifth inning. Guzman threw 101 pitches, sixty-one for strikes. During the sixth Jorgan Cavanerio (5-2, 2.66 ERA) would come in to relieve Guzman for an inning of work. Cavanerio would face eight batters, throwing twenty of his twenty-seven pitches for strikes, giving up three hits and two runs. Parker Bugg (2-1, 3.17 ERA) came in to finish out the seventh inning for the Hammerheads. Bugg would face six batters, striking out three and walking two. Chad Smith (5-3, 3.67 ERA) would come in for the ninth inning facing six batters and throwing fourteen of his twenty-eight pitches for strikes. Smith inherited some of the damage done by Bugg and also added a walk of his own. Vincenzo Aiello (4-1, 5.06 ERA) was the final pitcher called to the mound for the game. Aiello threw eight of his eleven pitches for strikes. Striking out two batters, giving up two hits and a run. The ninth inning would be the most damaging of the night for the Hammerheads and sealed the win for the Threshers.
Corey Bird would lead the Hammerheads with two runs batted in for the team. Bird would hit a bases clearing double in the seventh after the team kicked off their scoring in the first inning. Tristan Pompey would start the scoring with a single to right and be brought around to score by Gunnar Schubert. Bats were quiet for the Hammerheads until the seventh when Bird would get his third double of the season. The double would bring Will Allen and Cameron Baranek home to score the second and final, third, run of the game for the Hammerheads.
