Jupiter falls to Fort Myers despite Guzman's performance

By Luke Halpin / Jupiter Hammerheads | July 24, 2018 10:44 PM

Jupiter's starting pitcher and MLB Futures All-Star Jorge Guzman had a great outing in Tuesday night's 4-1 defeat.

The righty pitched five innings and retired nine batter on strikeouts while allowing just three hits. Guzman did however allow two earned runs after Fort Myers' Travis Blankenhorn hit a two run homer in the second inning.

Guzman now has a record of 0-7 on the season with an ERA of 3.21.

Jameson McGrane entered the game for Guzman making his first appearance for Jupiter after being called up from Greensboro. The New Hammerhead pitcher faced only four batters in the game retiring two while allowing one hit and one walk.

Alejandro Mateo stepped on the mound next for Jupiter in the middle of the fifth inning and remained in the game for one 2/3 innings as he struck out two batters and allowed one run off of one hit. Parker Bugg finished the game also pitching for one 2/3 innings, allowing one run and one hit, a home run in the top of the eighth.

Riley Mahan and Luis Pintor were the only Hammerheads with multi-hit games.

Mahan was the only player to cross home plate for Jupiter when he doubled in the fourth inning and was sent home by Lazaro Alonso after a James Nelson sacrifice fly allowed him to reach third.

The series is now tied at one win a piece and will come to a close after Wednesday night's rubber match. Cody Poteet will be on the mound for Jupiter in his first start since his spectacular performance on July 17th. Game time is set for 6:30 P.M. tickets and more information can be found at Rogerdeanchevroletstadium.com/tickets-events.
