Jupiter, FL- The Florida State League has announced that RHP Trevor Richards and RHP Cody Poteet have been named to the South Division Team at this year's All-Star Game in Lakeland.
Poteet has been the ace of the pitching staff this season. The former 4th round selection from San Diego, CA has a record of 2-3 this season with a 2.53 ERA. In nine games this season, Poteet has pitched 42.2 innings with 21 strikeouts, while only giving up 12 earned runs.
Richards is in his first full season of affiliated baseball after signing with the Marlins in 2016. Prior to signing, the righty from Aviston, IL played Independent Ball for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League.
The 24 year-old righty has a record of 4-4 this season with a 2.68 ERA. In 9 games, the he's pitched 53.2 innings, giving up 16 earned runs and striking out 58 batters, while holding opponents to a batting average of .222.
Richards is coming off arguably his best performance of the season, a 2-1 victory over Bradenton last Sunday.
He went 6.1 innings, giving up one run on one hit, while striking out seven. It was Richards' second one hitter of the season, the first coming April 10th against Daytona.
Reliever Andy Beltre was also selected to represent Jupiter, but will be replaced on the roster after being called up to Double-A Jacksonville on May 18th.
The All Star Game is scheduled for June 17th at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium, the home of the Flying Tigers.
