In the series finale vs. the Florida Fire Frogs, a solid start from Jordan Holloway and a walk-off RBI from Víctor Víctor Mesa gave the Hammerheads a 3-2 win in extra innings Saturday night.
Holloway pitched 5.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit for his entire start and striking out five total batters. After tonight, the 22-year-old hasn't allowed an earned run in four of his six starts and he's only allowed eight hits total over his 25 innings pitched this season. The Colorado native lowered his ERA to 1.80 after tonight's impressive performance.
Offensively, the Hammerheads were the first on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Isael Soto batted in James Nelson.
It looked like it could be a 1-0 win, until a Florida run in the eight on Vincenzo Aiello tied up the game.
In the tenth, the Fire Frogs scored first on a sac fly. Then the Hammerheads came back with an RBI single from James Nelson.
Alejandro Mateo held off Florida in the top of the 11th with two strikeouts and a line out, giving the Hammerheads a good chance to win in the bottom.
Marlins #2 prospect prospect Victor Victor Mesa provided the extra-inning heroics for the Hammerheads. After a walk and sac bunt, placed runner Micah Brown was on third with one out. With a single line drive, Mesa scored Brown for the walk-off win, 3-2 Hammerheads.
Mesa, a MLB Pipeline top 100 prospect, had an overall outstanding night, performing well at center field and going 3-6 with a triple and the game-winning hit.
The Hammerheads will take a day off before playing six games away against Dunedin and Florida.
