The Clinton LumberKings (1-0, 78-61) put at least one runner on every inning against the Kane County Cougars (0-1, 81-58) pitching staff in their 7-3 playoff opening win Wednesday night at Nelson Corp Field. The Cougars are on the brink of elimination and need to win out in the final two games of the series to keep their season alive.

Best-of-three opening round series against Clinton begins September 4; first home game on September 5

GENEVA, Ill. - The Kane County Cougars, minor league affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, will open the 2019 Midwest League Playoffs on Wednesday, September 5 against the Clinton LumberKings, a Miami Marlins affiliate, at Nelson Corp Field in Clinton, Iowa. The Cougars will return home to Northwestern Medicine Field for game two of the best-of-three series on Thursday, September 5 at 6:30 PM. A third game, if necessary, would also be hosted by the Cougars on Friday, September 6 at 6:30 PM.

Geneva, Illinois- The Kane County Cougars (81-58, 46-24) concluded the regular season with a 5-4 triumph over the Burlington Bees (66-74, 27-43) to clinch the second half Western Division title on Monday afternoon at Northwestern Medicine Field. The Cougars edged out the Clinton LumberKings by one game in the standings.

The win keeps the Cougars in a first-place tie with the Clinton LumberKings with two games remaining.

Opening Night, which will mark the 30th anniversary of Cougars baseball in Kane County, will take place on Thursday, April 9 against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The Cougars will face the Kernels for a brief three-game homestand before welcoming the Quad Cities River Bandits to town for a three-game set beginning Monday, April 13.
