May named SAL Player of the Week

Outfielder is first Intimidator to win weekly award in 2013

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (August 26, 2013) - The South Atlantic League has named Kannapolis Intimidators outfielder Jacob May the SAL Player of the Week for August 19-25, making May the first Intimidators player to earn a weekly plaudit from the league this season. He hit .500 (14-28) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, four RBI and five stolen bases in seven games over the past week. May also posted an on-base percentage of .531 and slugging percentage of .750.

The White Sox selected May in the third round (91st overall) in the June 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Coastal Carolina. He opened his professional career with Advanced Rookie Great Falls, batting .378 (17-45) with seven RBI, a double, a triple and five stolen bases in 12 games before earning a promotion to Class A Kannapolis on July 3. He is batting .283 (51-180) with seven home runs and 24 RBI in 47 games with Kannapolis and currently owns a 13-game hitting streak dating back to August 13.

At Coastal Carolina, May was named second team All-Big South in 2013, leading the Chanticleers in batting (.324), hits (70), triples (2), home runs (7), slugging percentage (.495), sac bunts (15) and stolen bases (16) while ranking second on the team in runs scored (42), doubles (12), RBI (31) and on-base percentage (.417). 

The Intimidators are off today before opening a three-game series in Delmarva on Tuesday. Kannapolis then returns to CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Friday for a four-game series against Hagerstown to wrap up the 2013 season.
