O'Reilly Perfect Through Six Innings in Chiefs Win

CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA - Mike O'Reilly retired the first 18 batters that he faced Monday in a perfect game bid at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium during the Peoria Chiefs' 3-0 one-hit shutout against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. O'Reilly posted a career-high 12 strikeouts and faced two batters over the minimum in a complete-game victory. He improved to 8-2 with the win and currently owns a 26-inning scoreless streak.
O'Reilly, who came within two outs of throwing a no-hitter May 20 versus the Beloit Snappers, carried a perfect game into the seventh inning against Cedar Rapids (10-9, 49-40). He struck out 11 of the first 18 Kernels that came to the plate and induced four popouts, two groundouts, and one fly out through the sixth.

Christian Cavaness ended Peoria's perfect game bid during the seventh inning. Cavaness led off with a double to right-center field, but the next three Kernels hitters were retired in order to end the frame. Caleb Hamilton was the only other baserunner for Cedar Rapids, and he reached on a two-out error during the eighth.
Stefan Trosclair hit an inside-the-park home run in the first inning that gave the Chiefs (11-8, 41-47) an early 1-0 lead. Batting with one out and no runners aboard, Trosclair lifted a fly ball to left-center field. Cavaness was unable to make a leaping catch at the wall, and the ball ricocheted into center field and allowed Trosclair to circle the bases for his sixth homer this year.
The Chiefs tallied two runs within the ninth to stretch their advantage to 3-0. Mick Fennell produced a sacrifice fly that plated Dylan Carlson. Danny Hudzina scored Peoria's final run after a pair of passed balls.
Eduardo Del Rosario (7-5) was charged with the loss in Monday's game. He allowed one run over six innings pitched and also recorded a pickoff for the Kernels.
Former Burlington Bees left-hander Abelino Pena remains the only Midwest League pitcher to throw a perfect game in Cedar Rapids. Pena's perfecto came in a 2-0 seven-inning shutout July 20, 1975 in game two of a doubleheader at the old Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Kernels are idle Tuesday before starting a six-game road trip Wednesday at the Western Michigan Whitecaps. First pitch for Wednesday's opener is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET (6:00 p.m. CT) with Kernels left-hander Domenick Carlini IV (3-6, 5.53) squaring off against Whitecaps right-hander Alfred Gutierrez (7-4, 3.93).
