BUIES CREEK, NC-Cristian Alvarado tossed a career-high eight innings to lead the Frederick Keys (38-51/7-13) to a 6-2 victory over the Buies Creek Astros (52-40/15-7) on Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium. The win ended a franchise-high 14-game road losing streak, as the Keys posted their first win away from home since June 3.

Alvarado (4-8) eclipsed his previous career-high of seven innings. Over his night, the right-hander allowed two runs (one earned) and scattered eight hits. He walked one and struck out five while throwing 94 pitches. The eight frames equaled the longest start by a Frederick pitcher this season. Keegan Akin also went eight innings on June 27 against Wilmington. Coincidentally, the victory for Alvarado was his first since June 3.

The Keys offense plated three runs before Alvarado even took the mound. Facing Justin Ferrell, Jay Gonzalez opened the game with a double, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Randolph Gassaway singled, Ryan Mountcastle doubled and both came home on a base knock by Shane Hoelscher .

Ferrell (7-4) was lifted after 0.2 of an inning. Tagged with the loss, he surrendered three runs on four hits while throwing 35 pitches.

Buies Creek scored a run in the second on a Stephen Wrenn fielder's choice to plate Jake Rogers and reliever Kevin Hill kept things close out of the bullpen, tossing 5.1 innings of one-run, three-hit baseball. Frederick's lone run off Hill came on a Gassaway single to center which plated Ricardo Andujar .

In the eighth, the Keys added a pair of insurance runs. With Hoelscher at first, Glynn Davis clubbed an RBI triple to right-center and came in on an Alex Murphy base hit.

Luis Gonzalez closed the door, working a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.

The Keys and Astros conclude their four-game series on Saturday. Left-hander Reid Love (1-3, 4.10) starts for Frederick and will be opposed by Buies Creek right-hander Forrest Whitley (1-0, 0.90). First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m from Jim Perry Stadium and the broadcast can be heard on MAX Country 93.5/100.5 FM, and the TuneIn Radio App.

Frederick returns home on July 20th for a four-game series against the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Homestand highlights include two nights of fireworks along with "Home Improvement" Night on the 22nd with an appearance from Richard Karn, who played Al Borland on the hit T.V. show.
