KINSTON, NC-The Frederick Keys tied a season-high with four home runs en route to an 8-6 victory over the Down East Wood Ducks on Sunday night at Grainger Stadium. In the game, the Keys survived a late eighth inning rally by Down East to hold on for the second road victory in their last three contests.

After being retired in order in the first, the visitors scored five times against Jeffrey Springs while sending eight men to bat. Given the green light on a 3-0 pitch, Yermin Mercedes crushed a solo home run to left. From there, the Keys loaded the bases before Ricardo Andujar plated a run on a sacrifice fly. One batter later, Glynn Davis landed the big blow with a three-run home run to left.

Down East got one run back in the third on a two-run double by Matt Lipka which scored Preston Scott. Frederick grew its advantage to 6-1 in the sixth on a solo home run by Alex Murphy , but the Wood Ducks countered with a double from Carlos Garay and a sac-fly by Yanio Perez in the home half of the inning.

Brian Gonzalez posted his first victory for the Keys since May 2, delivering six innings of two-run baseball. He scattered four hits walked two and punched out six.

In the eighth, Down East threatened, pulling within two. With a pair on base, Yanio Perez stroked a two-run double. Luis La O added a two-bagger to make it 8-5 and Scott singled home one more off Tanner Chleborad .

The Keys closer took care of business from there. In the ninth, he induced a 1-6-3 double play and a flyout from Josh Morgan to end the game.

Pitching 1,1 innings, Chleborad posted his 10th save in 11 tries. Springs (1-8) took the loss. In 5.2 innings, the southpaw gave up six runs on seven hits.

In the eighth, the orange and black added their fourth home run, a two-run shot by Armando Araiza .

First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m from Grainger Stadium and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source, frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn Radio App.
