FREDERICK, MD -On Tuesday, the Frederick Keys were announced as winners of the 2017 Esurance Home Field Advantage Award for the Carolina League. It marks the second straight season the Keys have claimed this honor. Winners are determined by highest percentage of attendance based on ballpark capacity. Each team selected will be recognized at this year's Winter Meetings in Orlando, FL.
"We can't thank our great fans enough for making this another terrific year," said Keys General Manager, Dave Ziedelis. "They are truly some of the most passionate in all of Minor League Baseball and we look forward to seeing many of them next season when we celebrate our 30th anniversary."
For the fourth consecutive season, the Keys led not only the Carolina League but all of Advanced-A baseball in average attendance. This season, 303, 930 fans visited Nymeo Field, second-most in the circuit. In each of the last six seasons the Keys have welcomed 300,000 or more fans to Nymeo Field and have paced Advanced-A baseball in overall attendance five times.
Since the club's founding in 1989, the Keys have never placed lower than third in the league in total attendance. Meanwhile, in the club's 29-year history over 8.6 million fans have attended a Frederick Keys game. This includes dignitaries and celebrities ranging from President George H.W. Bush to Pat Sajak.
