Baltimore Orioles second baseman and utility player Ryan Flaherty is expected join the Frederick Keys for their final series of the season, which begins Saturday, Aug. 31 and ends on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 2.
Flaherty, who is expected to rejoin the Orioles at the conclusion of the Keys' three-game series against Potomac at Harry Grove Stadium, was optioned to Class-A Delmarva Tuesday, Aug. 27, when the Orioles reinstated designated hitter Wilson Betemit, who played four rehab games in Frederick, from the disabled list. Flaherty is expected to play with Shorebirds until Saturday, when he's set to make his Frederick debut. Major League rosters expand to 40 players on Sept. 1.
Flaherty has played 75 games for the Orioles this season, batting .218 with eight homers and 20 RBIs while playing superb defense, primarily at second base. He's committed just two errors as an Oriole this year.
