Trent Howard & Marcel Prado Tossed 3.1 Scoreless Frames Out of the Bullpen

LHP Trent Howard tossed 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen on Monday night.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Keys dropped the opener of a four-game series against the Pelicans on Monday night, 3-2. After scoring a run in the seventh inning, Frederick stranded the bases loaded and in the ninth, the Keys left the game's tying run on second. Pelicans' starter, Luke Jackson, allowed just three hits over six shutout frames en route to his third win of the season.

Allan de San Miguel and Zane Chavez strung together back-to-back hits in the top of the first inning but were left stranded by Luke Jackson. Following the first inning, Jackson would only surrender one more hit on the night.

The Pelicans struck first on Monday night in the bottom of the third. Facing RHP Tyler Wilson, 2B Rougned Odor lined a double to right field. Jake Skole and Chris Grayson scored on the play. Wilson buckled down in the third and stranded the bases loaded.

Myrtle Beach tacked on another run in the fifth inning. With Rougned Odor on third, RF Preston Beck brought Odor home on a RBI infield single. CF Royce Bolinger followed with a single and Tyler Wilson was lifted from the game. On the night, Wilson allowed three earned runs on seven hits while walking four and striking out two.

LHP Will Lamb entered out of the Pelicans' bullpen following six innings of work by Luke Jackson. With one out, Travis Adair reached on an infield single. Jason Esposito followed with a single to center. Adair advanced to third as Esposito's single bounced off second base. Brenden Webb singled home Adair to put the Keys on the board. Lamb then walked Connor Narron to load the bases with one out. Batting from the right side against Lamb, Pena struck out looking. Lamb was relieved by Nick McBride after the strikeout of Pena. Glynn Davis hit a ball to center off McBride but Bolinger made the play to end the inning. Down by a pair of runs, the Keys stranded the bases loaded.

With two outs in the ninth inning, Steve Bumbry lined a RBI double to right field to cut the Keys' deficit to one but McBride struck out Glynn Davis to end the contest.

Luke Jackson picked up the win for the Pelicans and improved to 3-0 on the season while Tyler Wilson got the loss and dropped to 0-1.

Out the bullpen, LHP Trent Howard and RHP Marcel Prado combined to toss 3.1 scoreless frames.

The Keys and Pelicans will play game two of the four-game series on Tuesday night in Myrtle Beach. Frederick will turn to LHP Tim Berry (0-1, 3.18) while LHP Victor Payano will toe the rubber for the Pelicans. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:35 p.m. with the Frederick Gorilla Pregame Show on AM 1450 The Source.
