FREDERICK, MD -The Frederick Keys are excited to announce that Keys third baseman, Jomar Reyes , has been named the Carolina League Player of the Week for August 28-September 4. It is the eighth time a Frederick player has claimed a weekly accolade this year, while it is the first time Reyes has won a weekly award as a professional.
Over seven games, Reyes, 20, batted .357/.379/.679 (10-for-28) with two homers, seven RBIs, one triple, one double and four runs scored. He finished the regular season on a nine-game hitting streak. During this time he batted .343 (12-for-35) to go with two homers and seven RBIs. The Keys infielder finished with at least one RBI in each of his final five games.
In 50 games with the Keys this year, Reyes finished with a slash line of .302/.333/.434 to go with four home runs, 21 RBIs, 10 doubles, one triple and 28 runs scored. He was limited to 50 games due to a right hand injury which kept him out from April 29-August 4.
Entering the season as the No. 8 prospect in the Orioles system according to Baseball America, Reyes was also regarded as having the "best infield arm" according to the publication's best tools survey. He was signed by Baltimore as an international free agent in 2014.
The Frederick Keys clinched the second-half CL North wildcard spot on Sunday and begin their quest for a Mills Cup on Wednesday night against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Right-hander Cristian Alvarado (7-9, 5.00) starts for the Keys and will be opposed by right-hander Aaron Civale (11-2, 2.59).
