FREDERICK, MD -The Frederick Keys are excited to announce that outfielder, Ademar Rifaela , has been named the Carolina League Player of the Week for July 3-9. It marks the sixth time in eight weeks a member of the Keys has earned a Player or Pitcher of the Week Award.
The first time Rifaela, 22, has garnered a weekly accolade in 2017, the Curacao native batted .632/.632/.842 in five games. During this stretch he went 12-for-19 with a home run, a double, six RBIs and three runs scored. This included four multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games. On Friday, Rifaela tied his career-high with four hits against Myrtle Beach.
In 75 games this season, Rifaela is batting .312/.363/.543 with 15 home runs, 46 RBIs, 17 doubles, 43 runs scored and three stolen bases. Currently the Keys outfielder is tied for third in home runs, is fourth in slugging percentage and tied for fourth in hitting.
Originally signed by the Orioles as an international free agent in 2013, Rifaela is in his first full season at Advanced-A. He made a five-game cameo with the Keys in 2016. Hailing from Willemstad, Curacao, Rifaela is from the same hometown as Orioles all-star second baseman, Jonathan Schoop .
The Keys have a Tuesday off-day before beginning a four-game series with the Buies Creek Astros on Wednesday night. Right-hander Ofelky Peralta (2-7, 6.13) starts for the Keys and will be opposed by right-hander Hector Perez (3-3, 3.00). First pitch is at 7:00 p.m from Jim Perry Stadium and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source, frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app.
