A tough road trip came to a sullen end for Frederick Wednesday night as the Keys mustered just four hits in a 5-1 defeat in Myrtle Beach. The loss left the Keys needing to sweep a five-game series from Potomac to capture the first half crown in the Carolina League's North.

Offensively the Keys never got going in Myrtle Beach. They registered just 13 hits in the three game series. The Pelicans notched 14 hits both Tuesday and Wednesday night.

On Wednesday the Keys got a leadoff single from CF Johnny Ruettiger who then stole second and third amidst the frame. Frederick left him at third base.

Myrtle Beach grabbed the lead in the third inning as 3B Drew Robinson doubled to the wall in centerfield. Consecutive singles followed in a two-run rally for the Pelican. Myrtle beach added a run on three hits in the fourth inning. Keys starter Zach Petersime (2-6) finished the night having allowed 11 hits but only three runs in six innings.

The Keys had an opportunity in the seventh inning as a throwing error and consecutive walks loaded the bases with no outs. Consecutive strikeouts followed and the Keys mustered only one run on a two-out RBI infield single from SS Sammie Starr.

The Keys finished the trip at 1-5. Four of the five losses came by one run. It is the first time the Keys have been swept in a series since they dropped a trio against Winston-Salem from April 9 - April 11 at Harry Grove Stadium. The Keys are 1-6 in Myrtle Beach in 2013.

Frederick returns Thursday, June 13th for a five-game series in four days against Potomac. Peanut Free Night kicks it all off on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Fireworks follow Friday and Saturday's games. RHP Brady Wager will make his Harry Grove Stadium debut for the Keys.
