Kingsport Mets announce 2014 coaching staff

Jose Leger returns as manager

KINGSPORT, TN. - The Kingsport Mets have announced their coaching staff for the 2014 Appalachian League season. Jose Leger returns as Kingsport Mets manager, Jonathan Hurst as pitching coach and Yunir Garcia as hitting coach to defend their 2013 Appalachian League West Division title. This will be the third consecutive season together for the coaching staff.
 
Leger returns for his third season as the team's manager. Leger previously served as the manager for the Dominican Summer League Mets for two seasons. Before becoming manager, Leger was the hitting coach for the Dominican Summer League Twins in 2009. He played in the Minnesota Twins' minor league system from 2004-2008 as a catcher and infielder. He attended Georgia College State University and was selected to the All-Conference team twice.
 
Hurst will begin his fifth season as pitching coach for the Kingsport Mets. It's his ninth year as a pitching coach in the Mets organization. Hurst, who also pitched for the New York Mets, appeared in seven games in 1994. His other major league experience was with the Montreal Expos in 1992.
 
Garcia enters his third season as hitting coach for the Kingsport Mets. He begins his seventh season as a coach in the Mets organization after previously serving as the hitting coach with the Gulf Coast Mets in 2011. Garcia managed the Dominican Summer League Mets in 2010.
 
Gavin Grosh begins his first year as the team's athletic trainer and his third season overall with Mets organization. He spent the last two years as a trainer with the Mets in the Dominican Republic.
 
Kory Wan begins his first season with Mets organization as strength and conditioning coach. Originally from Tampa, FL, Wong graduated from Saint Leo University and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
