How Sweep It Is; Santana's Heroics Walks Off Princeton

This week's opening homestand has been full of big moments, but none of which were bigger than the final pitch of Thursday's series finale.
With the winning run on second and two outs, Luis Santana ripped a line drive into the right-center gap for what looked like an easy base hit and a walkoff. Princeton centerfielder Jose Tonton got a great jump and closed quickly, but the ball was just out of reach of the diving center fielder, allowing L.A. Woodard to score the winning run, as Kingsport completed the sweep with a 5-4 victory Thursday.
The Kingsport rally came just after the Rays plated two of their own in the top of the 9th to extend the game. The Rays were able to scrape together those two runs off Mets reliever Nelson Leon off of just one hit and some tremendous base running, but Leon got the last laugh as the Nicaraguan native was credited with the win.
Kingsport trailed 2-0 early, before plating three in the fourth and one more in the fifth. The sparkplug in the offense for Kingsport, before the 9th inning anyways, was Gavin Garay.
Garay, who also played in the Model City one year ago, made the most of his first start of the season. Garay went 2-3 on the evening, including an RBI single in the 4th inning, and scored a run on an Anthony Dirocie double in the 5th.
Lost in the shuffle, was the solid pitching debuts of Nate Peden, Liam McCall, and Eric Villanueva.
Peden started and gave up just one earned run over five innings of work, striking out three and walking one.
McCall relieved Peden and threw two scoreless innings of his own, before giving way to Villanueva who threw a scoreless eighth.
The Mets are one of two teams left in the Appalachian league that are undefeated, and now hit the road for a five-game roadtrip, which includes three games at Johnson City and two in Greeneville.
Kingsport then returns back to Hunter Wright Stadium next Thursday to kick off a six-game home swing against Johnson City and Pulaski.
